Race Day Prep

Schedule Service in Advance

If there is any question about your bike needing service before a race, you should schedule the service at least one week before the date of your race. Bike shops tend to stay busy during the warm season and can get a rush of bikes before a local race. The last thing you want to do is train hard and not have your most important piece of equipment ready for you on race day.

A Few Days Before the Race

A few days before the race, make sure to take the bike for a quick spin, even just around the neighborhood. Shift through every gear and make sure your brakes work well and feel even. Make sure the pads are not resting on the wheels. This is race day! You don’t need any added resistance!

The Night Before/The Day Of

Make sure to oil your chain the day of or the night before the race (some lubes recommend that you let the chain dry overnight). Make sure you pump your tires the day of the race to ensure that you have optimal pressure.

Prepare a Race Day Kit

Your race day kit should include the following items:

  • Floor pump
  • Spare inner tube
  • Multi-tool
  • Nutrition
  • Hydration
  • Flat kit including Co2 and adapter
  • Spare tire (only for worst case scenario)

Other Items on your Checklist

  • Helmet
  • Shoes
  • Gloves
  • Goggles
  • Sunglasses
  • Bug spray
  • Chair for pre/post race
  • Towel
  • Change of clothes
